What is IBAN?
According to EU bank laws IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is used to identify bank account number in international settlements. This new account numbering standard is indispensable condition of making payments with foreign counteragents. Maximum IBAN contains 34 symbols but each country has its own domestic IBAN standard with fixed account size.
Standard IBAN structure is as follows:
1. The first 2 letters identify the country of the bank account. The symbol of the country satisfies ISO standard;
2. The next 2 figures are the IBAN check number;
3. The remaining symbols of IBAN make domestic account number which contains client's account number in a certain bank as well as the feature of this bank and its branch if needed.
For example:
PL27114020040000300201355387 — IBAN number of client's account in Poland;
DE89370400440532013000 — IBAN of client's account in Germany.
