What are the IP-addresses for demo, contest and live accounts?
When connecting to the MetaTrader 4 server for the first time, the list of available servers loads automatically. If you specified a server in the form of an IP-address, the next time you connect the list of servers will load and the server in the МТ settings from the IP-address converts into alphabetical form (for example: "Alpari-Demo", "Alpari-Contest","Alpari-Classic", "Alpari-NDD-Live", "Alpari-ECN-Live" or "Alpari-Micro"). If the current server becomes unavailable in the future, МТ4 will automatically connect to another server working at that moment.

How do I track a server?
Each time you authorize in the system you must enter your login and password and choose a server for authorization. As a rule, the company’s servers are very reliable and practice shows that they rarely crash.
If you have any difficulties connecting to the server, we recommend calling Alpari Customer Service at +7 (495) 710-76-76. There are also a number of network commands that can clear up the cause of connectivity problems.
The MetaTrader 4 trading platform works with a number of servers (see server list).
To determine the precise problem, you should troubleshoot connectivity from your computer. If you have Windows as your operating system, you should follow these steps:
- 1. Click "Start";
- 2. Click "Run...";
- 3. Type "cmd" and press the Enter key;
- 4. You can then type a network command in the OS Windows command prompt that appears.
Network Commands:
The Tracert command allows you to trace the path of the request and to reveal at what point in the route the communication problems arise. The format of the command output is a table where each line is a point of the route. The first line in the table is always your gateway address and the next lines are interim steps up to the destination server. To perform the tracert command, type without quotes "tracert 217.74.44.23" (the verified server address should be a single space after the tracert command) in the command prompt window and press the "Enter" key.
The Telnet command allows you to determine if it is possible to connect with the remote server using a specific network port. You can verify a server’s availability using network port 443. To perform the telnet command, type without quotes telnet, the server and the port, for example , "telnet 217.74.44.23 443" (the verified server address should be a single space after telnet command and the port number a single space after the server) in the command prompt window and press the "Enter" key. You should then wait for one of two possible results: either an empty screen with a blinking cursor or the following message: "Connecting 217.74.44.23...Unable to connect this host to the port 443: Connection failed".Attention! Type the server address for which you have verified access (see server list). If necessary, report the result to Technical Support.
The results of troubleshooting connectivity can be pasted into any text document. To do this, right-click in any spot in the command prompt window, choose "Select all" in the menu that appears and press "Enter", then open any text editor to paste the selection by pressing "Ctrl" + "V"
Important! The speed and possibilities of work on any other sites or servers will not allow you to come to a decisive conclusion about our server malfunction as routes of data communication may differ.

When I try to connect to MetaTrader 4 it shows "No Connection".
Possible Reasons:
- 1. No internet connection;
- 2. Your network may block port 443 and uses a proxy server or a local network to connect to the internet. If this is the case, you should ask your system administrator for the proxy server address and the port used to connect the internet and then record them in the terminal settings ("Tools" menu / "Options" / "Server" / Check "Enable proxy server" / Click "Proxy..." / Type in the proxy server address, port, login and password);
- 3. Your computer's firewall program (antivirus software) blocks port 443. In this case, you should add MetaTrader to the list of safe programs or open port 443;
- 4. Your terminal build may be old. In this is so, you should update your terminal. Check the current version of your terminal in MetaTrader4 in the "Help" menu / "About". We provide the latest version of the terminal on our website in the MetaTrader Trading Platform section.
- 5. You have not accessed your trading account for a long time and the server address may have changed. In this case, you should find the server's new IP-address (current IP-addresses are provided on our website in the Server IP-Addresses section) or update the terminal (download the latest version of MetaTrader 4 from our website and install it over the previous one).

What should I do if MetaTrader 4 relays the message "Invalid account"?

Possible Reasons:
- 1. You entered an invalid login in MetaTrader.
A MetaTrader login is always numeric and does not include any letters.- The MetaTrader login for a classic.mt4 live account is five digits (for example: 31242). It is provided on the last page when opening an account and is also sent to your email address.
- The MetaTrader login for a micro.mt4 live account is six digits (for example: 201742). It is provided on the last page when opening an account and is also sent to your email address.
- The MetaTrader login for a demo account is seven digits (for example: 492032). It is provided in the MetaTrader window after opening a demo account and is also sent to the email address you specified during registration and through MetaTrader internal mail.
- The MetaTrader login for a contest account is seven digits (for example: 2005568). It is sent to your email address after registering in a contest;
- 2. You entered an invalid password.
- A MetaTrader password consists of no less than five characters and no less than two of three character types (lowercase, uppercase and numerals). All letters must be Latin. The password field is case sensitive. You may be mistaking a letter for a numeral or vice versa. This is why it's best to fill in this field by copying the password from the email you received after registering your account.
- The MetaTrader password for live accounts of all types is provided on the last page when opening an account and is also sent to your email address.
- The MetaTrader password for a demo.mt4 is provided in the MetaTrader window after opening the account and is also sent to your email address and through MetaTrader internal mail.
- The MetaTrader password for a contest account is provided on the last page of contest registration in the contest and is also sent to your email address;
- 3. You have chosen the server for a different account type.
- You have to choose the correct server for your respective type of account.
- 4. There is no such account.
Live accounts that have not been activated within 30 days of their opening are deleted.
To activate live accounts, you need to make an initial deposit (you can find more detailed information on the page "Forex Trading with Alpari").
Important! The Company reserves the right to activate a Client's trading account without regard to the amount on the account.
Demo accounts in MetaTrader 4 are valid for 30 days after the last account access.

When I try to carry out a trading operation MetaTrader 4 relays the message "Trade context is busy".

The message "Trade context is busy" will appear if your attempt to carry out a transaction is unsuccessful (for example, a client sends a second order when not having recieved the processing results of the first one), that may occur due to a temporary loss of server connection. In such a case, the order will be placed in the client terminal queue, during which time any attempt to carry out an operation will be met with the message mentioned above.
To clear the request queue, you need to relaunch the terminal.

When I try to open or modify a trading position MetaTrader 4 relays the message "Trade is disabled". Why?

Possible Reasons:
1. Most likely the trading session on this instrument is already closed or has not yet begun. You can find the trading session schedule in the Contract Specification for each instrument.
2. It could be that the futures contract expires soon. This is called the Expiration Date. Depending on an instrument's liquidity, you can only execute "close only" trades (closing open positions) for a certain time period before the Expiration Date. Another futures contract with a different ticker will be introduced for trading in the place of the one in "close only" mode. Several days before an instrument goes into "close only" mode, a notification will be sent through MetaTrader internal mail, as seen in the picture below:

You can find the Expiration Date for futures contracts in the Contract Specification.
3. If you trade on a micro.mt4 or micro.mt4.swapfree account, please keep in mind that the total order quantity and total volume are restricted. You can see more information about these restrictions in our Trading Terms.
Thus, if you try to open a position when the total volume restriction has been exceeded or if the volume of the new position added to the sum of positions already open will exceed the restriction, the terminal will relay the "Trade is disabled" message. The "Trade is disabled" message is also displayed when the restriction on the total quantity of positions and pending orders open simultaneously is exceeded.
When the price reaches the pending order level, the total volume and quantity of pending orders and positions open simultaneously will be checked. A pending order will be deleted from the execution queue in the following cases:- the order volume and volume of positions already open will exceed the total volume restriction.
- the restriction on the total number of open orders and pending orders placed simultaneously has been exceeded.

Why is the "New Order" button inactive?

There are two types of account access in the trading platform: Master and Investor. Authorizing using the master password gives you full rights to work with the terminal. If you authorize as an Investor, you can look at your account, analyse price data and work with expert advisors, but you cannot carry out any trading operations.
You most likely are using your investor password to access the account. To carry out trading operations, you need to change the password to the master password in your settings.
Investor passwords for demo accounts are generated automatically when the account is opened and are sent with the master password through MetaTrader internal mail.
Investor passwords for live accounts are assigned by the trading account holder.

What is trailing stop? Does it work when my computer isn't connected to the internet?
"Trailing Stop" is an algorithm to manage Stop Loss orders. If you place a Trailing Stop (for X pips) the following occurs:
- 1. No Stop Loss order will be placed until the open position is in a profit of at least X pips. MetaTrader then places a Stop Loss order X pips from the current price (in this case, at the breakeven point);
- 2. Subsequently, each time the difference between the current price and the order level exceeds X pips, MetaTrader sends a command to modify the level of the Stop Loss order to a level X pips higher or lower than the current price. As a result, the Stop Loss order always stays in accordance with the current price.
Note: "Trailing Stop" works on the Client Terminal (whereas Stop Loss and Take Profit work on the server). Thus, Trailing Stop only functions when MetaTrader is on and connected to the internet. When MetaTrader is off only the Stop Loss order will work, under the condition that it was placed earlier than the Trailing Stop.

A bar disappeared on the chart. Why? What should I do?
Some bars may be missing due to the loss of TCP packets (when you temporarily lose internet connection). In this situation, you need to refresh the chart (Right-click on the chart / "Refresh"). This should load all the missing data within the limits of the history available.

If the missing bars have not appeared, you must:
- 1. Close MetaTrader;
- 2. Go to the "History" folder (C:/ Program Files / MetaTrader 4 / History);
- 3.If a bar is missing on a classic.mt4 live account, go to the "Alpari-Classic" folder or on a micro.mt4 live account, go to the "Alpari-Micro" folder. For demo accounts, go to the "Alpari-Demo" folder and for contest accounts, go to "Alpari-Contest";
- 4. Delete the files in the folder which contain the name of the instrument in which the bar is missing;
- 5. Relaunch MetaTrader 4.

How can I export the quote history to any application in *.CSV format?
MetaTrader4 affords the opportunity to export the quote history and analyze it in different software. Please keep in mind that the quote history can be of an extremely high volume and requires significant computing power to carry out any operations with it.
To export the quote history to a software package, you need to:
- 1. Go to "Tools" – "History Center" in the main menu of the MetaTrader 4 platform;
- 2. Choose the trading instrument and the time frame you need in the dialog window;
- 3. Click "Export";
- 4. Name the file to be exported and choose the *.CSV format to save;
As a result, you will have a file containing the quote history in CSV format, which is a text file designed to represent the table data using lines separated by a comma. This file can be used for work in different software such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word.
Note: Microsoft Excel often does not automatically translate the commas which separate the data and consequently, the quote history is downloaded in Microsoft Excel not separated into columns. To fix this problem, use the "Text in column" function which prompts Excel to interpret commas and other symbols as separation between columns.

I can’t open a demo account, MetaTrader shows blank values for the password and login fields.
1. It's possible that your network blocks port 443 and uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. If you use the working network of an organization, this is most likely the problem. You should ask your system admistrator for the proxy server address and the port used to connect to the internet and then record them in the terminal settings ("Tools" menu / "Options" / "Server" / Check "Enable proxy server" / Click "Proxy..." / Type in the proxy server address, port, login and password);
2. Your computer's firewall program (antivirus software) blocks port 443. In this case, you should add MetaTrader to the list of safe programs or open port 443.
