How to Export the Quotes History
in the CSV Format

In order to download quotes from the terminal you should:

2. Increase the maximum quantity of bars in MetaTrader 4 settings on the basis that one day in the History contains 1440 M1 bars: MT4 / Tools / Options / Charts / Max bars in history).

3. Go to the History Center in MetaTrader 4: MT4 / Tools / History Center.

4. Choose the time-frame of the neccessary instrument you are interested in (double click for example on EURUSD/1 min) and press Download.

In the MetaTrader4 there is an opportunity to export the quotes history to analyze it in different software. Note that the quotes history can be extremely volume and significant computing power is needed to make any operations with it.

In order to export the quotes history to the software package you should:

  • 1. Go to «Tools» – «History Center» in the MetaTrader 4 main menu;
  • 2. Choose the trading instrument and the time frame you need in the dialog window;
  • 3. Press the «Export» button;
  • 4. Specify the name of the export file and choose the *.CSV format to save.

As a result you will have a file containing the quotes history in the CSV format, which is a text file designed to represent the table data in the form of the lines with a separating comma. This file can be used for work in different software such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word.

Note: It often happens that the Microsoft Excel does not automatically modify the commas which separate the data and as a result the quotes history is downloaded in Microsoft Excel not separated into the columns. In order to remove this problem you can use the function «Text in column», which allows to interpret the separating commas and other symbols into columns.
