in MetaTrader 4
How to Export the Quote History
in CSV Format
To download quotes directly from the terminal, you need to:
1. Update the terminal by downloading MetaTrader 4 from our website (build 220 or higher) and installing it over the older version. You will not be able to import quotes if you use LiveUpdate.
2. Increase the maximum number of bars in the MetaTrader 4 settings so one day in the History contains 1440 M1 bars: MT4 / Tools / Options / Charts / Max bars in history).
3. Go to the "History Center" in MetaTrader 4: MT4 / Tools / History Center.
4. Choose the time frame for the instrument you need (double-click on EURUSD/1 min, for example) and click "Download".
MetaTrader 4 will then download the history of M1 quotes from our History Center and import them to MT4 time frames.

MetaTrader4 affords the opportunity to export the quote history and analyze it in different software. Please keep in mind that the quote history can be of an extremely high volume and requires significant computing power to carry out any operations with it.
To export the quote history to a software package, you need to:
- 1. Go to "Tools" – "History Center" in the main menu of the MetaTrader 4 platform;
- 2. Choose the trading instrument and the time frame you need in the dialog window;
- 3. Click "Export";
- 4. Name the file to be exported and choose the *.CSV format to save.
As a result, you will have a file containing the quote history in CSV format, which is a text file designed to represent the table data using lines separated by a comma. This file can be used for work in different software such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word.
Note: Microsoft Excel often does not automatically translate the commas which separate the data and consequently, the quote history is downloaded in Microsoft Excel not separated into columns. To fix this problem, use the "Text in column" function which prompts Excel to interpret commas and other symbols as separation between columns.
